All ISEP Exchange programs provide students with 19 meals per week. As some institutions do not have a traditional dining hall for students, you might be provided a stipend to cover the cost of meals.

ISEP Direct programs have flexible benefit packages, and some programs do not include meals. For a comprehensive list of programs and benefits, visit our ISEP Direct Programs page.

As you complete the application, note any dietary restrictions (or if you are vegetarian or vegan) on your ISEP Student Self-Assessment Medical Form. This information will guide us and your host ISEP Coordinator in making appropriate arrangements.

Here are some general tips:

  • You may wish to bring protein powder, vitamins and other dietary supplements with you to ensure good nutrition while abroad.
  • Ask your host ISEP Coordinator or study abroad alumni for suggestions on maintaining your diet.
  • Food is an important part of any culture. Consider modifying your usual diet to better integrate into and explore the culture.
  • Be prepared to find a tactful way to deal with social situations in which you are offered specially prepared meals that may not fit your diet.
  • Ask your classmates! A big benefit of ISEP programs is that you will take classes alongside local students. Use them as a resource in finding the best markets and vegetarian or vegan-friendly restaurants. Even if you don’t have any dietary restrictions, this is a great way to learn more about your new home.
