Miko McFarland

Director of Education Abroad University of Kentucky | Council Member

Miko McFarland, acting director of Education Abroad & Exchanges at the University of Kentucky, oversees the education abroad office and supports the team in managing a dynamic portfolio of education abroad programming that includes exchanges, faculty-directed, partner programs, internships and community engagement opportunities. McFarland received her bachelor's in anthropology from Missouri State University. Prior to graduation, she studied abroad in Japan as an ISEP exchange student, which prompted her to pursue a master's in international affairs and administration and to continue developing her international experience by working abroad. From 2010 to 2014, McFarland served as the Study Away Advisor for Missouri State University, advising approximately 400 students every year through all phases of the education abroad process. McFarland is an actively engaged in the national scene, presenting, publishing and promoting best practices in international education. She currently serves on the ISEP Council of Advisors and represents the University of Kentucky on the International Studies Abroad Board of Directors. Throughout her international education career, McFarland has received numerous recognitions, including the 2011 NAFSA Region IV Outstanding New Professional in International Education and a 2012 DOSA Award, through Missouri State University's Division of Student Affairs, for her campus commitment to education abroad.
