10 Reasons to Study Abroad in Savoie this Summer

November 29, 2013

The Universite de Savoie in Chambery, France offers students a taste of study abroad in a bite size 7-week program. At the university, you will be fully immersed in the French language, the culture of the Savoie region, and will be centrally located to breathtaking views of the French Alps. Still not convinced? Here are 10 more reasons why studying at the Universite de Savoie this summer is the right choice.

  1. You’ll learn the language. Former ISEP student from John Carroll University said “I chose this program because I wanted to study in a smaller city that would force me to use French instead of relying on English in a tourist city.”

“My friends at Savoie threw a going-away party in mid-May for a last get-together before the summer. I was a bit envious that some people get to call this beautiful place ‘home’ all year round.” – photo by Mary M

  2. It is the place to go in France if you want the small town feel. Aime, former ISEP student says “The only skyscrapers in this town are mountains.”

  3. Snowboarding, skiing, and snowshoeing are available in the Alps if the weather permits! And according to a former ISEP student from Virginia Tech, “there are tons of organizations you can sign up with to go to the ski resorts for the weekend with provided transportation.”

Here’s ISEP Ambassador Aime snowshoeing in the Alps: “When I was about to quit, I had 8 ISEP students encouraging me to keep going.”

  5. The Mediterranean coast is only about a 3 hour train ride away. Swim in the sea, water ski, or bask in the sun’s warmth on a day trip to the Mediterranean! How relaxing!

  6. The Savoie region is centrally located in Europe. With close proximity to the Lyon and Geneva airports, setting foot in new countries will be more than just a dream.

  7. The university welcomes its students with a cocktail party and welcome weekend!

  8. The Savoie region is home to part of the Tour de France. Want to know what it feels like to be a world class biker? Check it out!

  9. The melted, cheesy goodness that is fondue is from this region. Mmmm, cheese.

  10. You’ll see iconic landmarks and beautiful architecture. Take your photo with La Fontaine des Elephants!

  11. You may never have the chance to do this again. Seven whole weeks in France, learning French, absorbing the breathtaking scenery of the Alps, the ability to travel all over Europe; sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer vacation.

Even though there’s a good chance you’re wrapped up in a blanket with a hot cup of coffee right now with the heater blasting, summer is upon us and it’s never too early to start planning. Set on summer in Savoie? Great choice! Want to see what other summer programs ISEP has to offer? We’ve got you covered. View our complete list of summer programs. You can’t go wrong!
