April 25, 2018

Arlington, VA — The University of Kansas’ Grupo de Kansas program at Universidad de Costa Rica, located in San José, Costa Rica has officially become an ISEP Direct host member institution.

ISEP has added this partnership with the University of Kansas that will expand options in Latin America for students.

Costa Rica is an increasingly popular study abroad destination known for its natural beauty and biodiversity, and for its social and political stability. UCR is located in San Pedro, a hip and safe neighborhood in San Jose that will allow students to truly immerse themselves in Latin American culture and live like locals. Home-stay families are carefully vetted by program staff and many have been hosting students for 15 years or more.

As one of the top research institutions in Central America, UCR is a prestigious university that guarantees quality education for its students. In the 2018 QS Rankings, UCR was ranked 19th in Latin America and 1st in Central America. ISEP is proud to be the only U.S. provider with a program at UCR and will begin sending students on the new ISEP Direct program in spring 2019.

The program offers students the opportunity to directly enroll in a broad range of course offerings in Spanish that can meet all undergraduate fields of study. The versatility of the courses provided enables this program to be applicable for a wide range of students and their distinct fields of study. Students can anticipate that their enrollment at KU-UCR through ISEP Direct will be both culturally and academically enriching.

About ISEP: ISEP is the largest study abroad network in the world, dedicated to helping students overcome the financial and academic barriers to study abroad. Through ISEP, students build real connections and gain a true understanding of what it is like to live in another culture. By utilizing existing academic resources at our partner universities, we are able to provide students access to affordable, high-quality programs, that in return help develop culturally sensitive skill sets needed for today’s global workforce.

About the partnership between the University of Kansas and Universidad de Costa Rica: 2018 marks 60 years of institutional collaboration between the University of Kansas and the University of Costa Rica. In December of 1958, KU established a partnership with the University of Costa Rica (UCR), which is now recognized as the longest-standing institutional partnership in the Western Hemisphere. During their 60 years of partnership, over 3,200 students from KU and across the nation have studied at the University of Costa Rica, with 78% of these students studying at UCR for a full semester or academic year as a member of the Grupo de Kansas.
