Dr. Bertlinde Laniel is an Associate Professor of political philosophy and semantics at Université Jean Monnet de Saint-Etienne in France. She has been an ISEP board member since 2012. She has been an ISEP Coordinator since 1998 and is the current President of ISEP France. She has served on the ISEP France Board since 2003, first as Secretary and then as Vice President before being elected President. In 2015, Laniel received the Knight's title in the Order of the Academic Palms, a distinction awarded by France’s Ministry of Higher Education for her commitment to the French language and culture. In 1995, she authored the book Le mot "democracy" et son histoire aux Etats-Unis de 1780 a 1856 (Travaux / C.I.E.R.E.C), published by Les Publications de l’Université Sant-Etienne.
