I am studying at the University of Ghana in Legon, Ghana, which is 5,560 miles from my home university at UNC Asheville. Until boarding the plane to Ghana I had never been overseas, so the travel was exciting and terrifying at the same time. As the first one of my family to go to a university, I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to experience the welcoming warmth of the Ghanaian people. I look forward to learning the local language of Twi and taking a West African drumming class alongside African history courses. I'm excited to work with children in the community at an after school program. I can't wait to absorb the culture here and look forward to bringing what I learn back to my own community.
