The decision to pack up and live in another country for an extended amount of time is not one to take lightly. Although it’s not a comprehensive list, asking myself these 3 questions helped me decide whether or not studying abroad would be right for me.

I had expectations about the time I would spend studying abroad in France for over ten years: ten years of dreaming, planning and working to achieve my goals. I knew where I wanted to go and what I wanted to study; I read books, blog posts and packing lists - anything I could get my hands on.

My second month in Finland has been just as hectic and action packed as the first. The highlight thus far was going ice swimming with some of my Finnish friends. I told them, "I want to immerse myself in the activities of the natives," and immediately they gave each other a mischievous look.

If you’re interested in studying abroad there are a lot of things you have to prepare before your departure: choosing a location, submitting applications and fees, getting a passport and visa, budgeting your time and resources, choosing classes and packing all of the essentials.

I'm in a place far, far away from anything I know or am familiar with. No red double-decker buses, no cottage pie, no large Norfolk skies, no PG Tips and no familiar faces. A slight murmur of English whistles past my ear in the street and, for a slight second, I forget where I am.
