ISEP Has Signed the CANIE Accord

March 16, 2023

ISEP is proud to announce that we have signed the CANIE Accord! The Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE) is a grassroots, nonprofit organization run entirely by volunteers and is focused on creating action-oriented efforts that connect international education, address climate change, and center climate justice.

By becoming a Signatory to the CANIE Accord, ISEP Study Abroad is strengthening and accelerating the international education sector’s collective response to the climate crisis.

About CANIE

Through open-access resources, specialized events, networking, and information sharing, CANIE aims to mobilize the full power of the international education community to address our contribution to the climate crisis. CANIE activities include Climate Action Week, a global summit held annually in November in conjunction with the United Nations global climate talks.

ISEP’s Sustainability Initiatives

To evaluate and improve our own sustainability efforts, ISEP has also created a taskforce focused on lowering CO2 emissions created by our staff and providing education to our students on reducing their carbon footprint while abroad.

Additionally, ISEP is seeking to reduce the carbon footprint of attendees at the upcoming Forum on Education Abroad Annual Conference. By sponsoring 450 full-day Sound Transit Link light rail passes that can be used to return to SeaTac airport at the conclusion of the conference, ISEP hopes to reduce CO2 emissions due to Forum travel by nearly 2 metric tons.

ISEP looks forward to partnering with our community members, many of whom are already leaders in sustainability initiatives, on this important work!
