To Our Global Community: We Value International Exchange

November 9, 2016

When I first came to ISEP, I learned the value of community.

Today we come together across the United States and around the world, and we are united in our mission and our values.

As a membership community of more than 300 institutions in over 50 countries, ISEP reaffirms our commitment to all our students, educators and administrators in our resolve that international exchange helps to build a more peaceful, just and inclusive world.

These are the times that test our values. Those values of community, cross-cultural collaboration, multilateralism, sharing of resources and supporting one another haven´t changed. Our values are as important today as they have ever been.

To our students about to embark on an international journey to the United States and those currently at U.S. universities and colleges — we are still a big-hearted, welcoming and affirming community. Your fellow ISEP students on campuses around the country are ready to welcome you, to learn from you and to learn with you. The team at the ISEP Global Office is here to advise and support you. We are ready to answer any questions you may have, so please reach out to us.

To our U.S. students currently abroad and those about to embark — you are ambassadors of our shared ISEP values. We encourage you to show the rest of the world the resilience, humility, diversity and creativity that inspired you to study abroad. I encourage you to have real conversations with others, and listen to understand the culture you are in and the culture you come from.

You have a strong, talented, global community of faculty, staff, and administrators across the world, and in the ISEP Global Office here in Washington, D.C., who will make this journey with you. We are confident you will return from study abroad with much to offer a world that needs your voice and your inspiration to address our shared challenges.

Our community goes beyond borders. Today, more than ever, it is time for us to come together.

John S. Lucas, Ph.D.
President and CEO
