Road Trip to Joshua Tree, California

December 10, 2018

One Friday morning at 7:00 a.m., my two roommates and I made our way to the recreation center at our school to meet with our group. We packed the vans with all our bags and got on the road to Joshua Tree. Joshua Tree is a beautiful national park in the desert of California, we headed there for 3 days and 2 nights.

When we arrived, I just couldn’t believe how beautiful the views where! I had never seen rock formations quite like those. This was a great experience because not only did I get to hang out with my friends and visit such a beautiful place, but I was able to meet new people and get out of my comfort zone.

On the second day we went rock-climbing. That was something I had never done before, I had been indoor rock-climbing, but this was different. There were no colored rocks to help you, you had to just grab the cracks in the wall and pull yourself up. At night we had bonfires and went star gazing, in the morning we also had the most amazing sunrises. This was a great experience and I would for sure do it again.

I have been actively trying to get more involved with the different opportunities my school, California State University, San Marcos, provides. This is a great way to meet new people and travel around your host country safely and affordably. I would encourage exchange students to sign up to all the activities they can to really maximize their time and experience.
